Seven of Cups

The Seven of Cups represents the paralysis of infinite choice, the seduction of fantasy over reality. Each cup offers something different, something tempting—but which is real? The cups float in clouds because they are not yet grounded; they are wishes, projections, possibilities that haven't been tested against the hardness of the world. The wreath represents victory and recognition; the snake, ancient wisdom but also deception; the castle, security and status; the jewels, material wealth; the laurel, fame and honor; the dragon, raw power and forbidden knowledge; the veiled figure, perhaps love itself, perhaps spiritual enlightenment. Each beckons, but the figure cannot choose. And in not choosing, they have nothing. This card asks: Which fantasy are you hiding in? What would happen if you chose one path and committed to making it real? It reminds us that possibility is intoxicating, but reality requires the courage to limit ourselves. The Seven of Cups appears when we need to stop dreaming and start deciding.
